BTW…my last name is pronounced "gah-dert".

Mrs. Goedert shows Ben and Tyler
something interesting on the computer.

How long have you
been a principal?
13 years…
Where did you go
to elementary school, and how was it different than today?
Peace Lutheran
School and Hemmeter Elementary School, both in Saginaw. I loved going to
school and used to play school in the summer. I always wanted to be a
teacher, and I love being a principal.
I used to walk home
for lunch... No one wore jeans or sweatshirts to school. We wore
corduroy pants or skirts and sweaters. We had to read a lot of pages and
answer questions. We worked by ourselves, and NEVER with other people. I
always loved my teachers!
What do you like
to do for fun?
My husband and I
have four grandchildren, and they all live elsewhere in Michigan, so
many weekends and vacations are spent traveling to visit them. I also
like to read, walk outdoors, snow ski, travel, go out to dinner and
SHOP!!!!! You will note that cooking is not on the list!
What is your
guiding principle/personal mission statement for principaling?
It's not about the
teachers teaching...it's about the children learning. We are now being
told what children need to learn in every grade by the state and federal
government. We also know so much about the conditions necessary for
learning. My job is to help all of the adults in a child's school life
do whatever it takes to make sure that the children are learning.
…….keeping the
children safe and having fun at school is pretty high on the list, too
Do you have any
children?
Sure do….three
daughters!
Oldest daughter,
Melissa and her husband Tony, son Rocco and baby Mia live in Royal Oak.
Middle daughter,
Hillary and her husband, sons Hayden and Beckett and baby Lola live in
Lansing .
Youngest daughter,
Sarah, lives in Chicago and is a usability analyst for Blue Cross/Blue
Shield. She is “mom” to a huge German Shepherd/Chow mix. Great dog, but
hasn’t made the Christmas list yet.
If you were going
to be staying on a nice tropical island by yourself for a month, with
all food/drink needs taken care of, what three things would you want to
have with you?
A month without my
family???? Okay, I’ll be a sport and give it a try….. sunglasses, good
books and sunblock….(but I would check the food/drink supply to make
sure it included plenty of Diet Coke and Orville Redenbacher popcorn
(white kernels only)!
