Welcome to Auburn Elementary

Posted 11 August 2008:

Dear Auburn Elementary Students and Families,

As you read this message you will hopefully be as excited about the new school year starting as I am! Our custodians are working hard to make the school sparkle, and Auburn Elementary will be ready when we see you on Tuesday, September 2, 2008!

School hours this year are 8:40-3:37.

From the questions we are starting to get, there are many parents wondering about back-to-school routines. Hopefully the info on this page will help you with your planning!

Please mark your calendars for our Curriculum Night on Thursday, September 4, 2008. We are doing something different with time and delivery this year, so watch for specific times in our newsletter to come home on the first day of school. Part of the evening will include a general “Welcome Back” to all at 6:30 in the gym!

On behalf of the staff, I wish you a continued safe and happy summer….and kids…remember to do your Principal Homework: Read 7 Books!

Mrs. Goedert

BUS RIDERS
The transportation department will mail bus information about routes and times on August 15. To make the end of the day stress-free for your child, please give the bus number IN WRITING, before he/she leaves each day. (The number of children who forget their bus number by 3:00 is amazing!) Please remember that a.m. and p.m. bus runs are often delayed as the children, drivers and staff settle into the new routines that back-to-school brings! During the first week, Auburn staff will stay by the phone until 5:00 so we can be sure all are safely home!

MORNING DROP OFF
Our parking lot has been redesigned, and striping and signage have been ordered. Safety has been improved by creating an island to separate children from the cars and buses. The island will provide a space for morning drop off and afternoon pick up that will be more convenient for parents. There will be a single traffic lane of traffic marked for cars waiting to drop off or pick up.

The far end of the island will be the “Green Means Go” area. This is the area where children will quickly get out of the car so the traffic continues to move. Children will walk on the island toward the school, and they will not have to cross the parking lot!

In the morning, the island area will be reserved for children who are ready to get out of the car. Parents whose children want or need additional time or help before they are ready to leave the car will be happy to see that we have added extra parking spots to alleviate congestion. Please park the car in the lot and walk your child to the sidewalk near the building.

END OF DAY PICK UP
For the first week of school, at the end of the day, parents of Ms. Dubay’s kindergarten, and all 1st-5th grade car-riders will need to park in the lot, meet their children in the gym, and then exit the school near the computer lab. (Kindergarten Taglauer and Kindergarten Smith will meet their children at their outside doors…consider parking on PARK STREET.) The front doors of the school will be strictly reserved for bus students! Pickup parents are asked to park in the lot…..Please do not park next to the island.)

We ask for your patience, cooperation, and good suggestions as we work through these changes! If EVERYONE cooperates, it will work as designed to keep your children safe!

CURRICULUM NIGHT
Our Curriculum Night will be held on Thursday, September 4. Watch for detailed information coming home the first week of school.

Welcome to Auburn Elementary's web site! We are glad you came by to visit....Our site changes frequently...especially if you check out the Auburn Picture Album! We are proud of our school, and our pictures reflect the joy and learning that takes place at our wonderful school. Our web site is one way you can learn about school programs, staffing and parental involvement.

Auburn Elementary School serves over 539 students in grades K-5. We are located in Auburn, Michigan between Midland and Bay City. Our students are fortunate to attend a school where the staff, parents and community support their quality education. Our priorities are to provide a safe environment (in our recently renovated school) where every child is encouraged to learn to his or her potential. We know with every decision that the future of our students is up to us!

Auburn Elementary has a great reputation in the community because we provide a strong core curriculum for students, grades K-5, as well as offer children many enriching experiences. The core curriculum consists of English-Language Arts (reading, writing, listening, speaking and viewing), mathematics, science, social studies, Spanish, physical education, media, art and music. Our new media center and computer lab offer state-of-the art collections and networked capabilities for our children to research and publish their work.

We have kind, caring and experienced teachers and very supportive parents who value the quality of education provided for their children. There are numerous opportunities for parents and community to be involved at Auburn, including a very active PTO. Our PTO contributes to the educational programs and helps to create that sense of family that all Auburn students, staff and parents enjoy.

We hope that you will find our site useful. If you have any comments or suggestions, feel free to contact us with your ideas! For further information, please feel free to call (989) 662-4921 or visit our school. You are always welcome.

 Mrs. Mary Goedert, Principal
